No Audio in Windows 7 under Virtualbox

Share |

If you install Windows 7 guest in Virtualbox, there is no sound even after you installed any Virtualbox drivers. This short article will help you fix this issue. The problem is, that there is no driver in Windows 7 for the audio hardware Virtualbox emulates. You will need to download the Realtek AC97 Audio Codec Driver to fix this issue.

1) Set you Virtualbox Audio settings as follows:

Host Driver:

PulseAudio

Controller:

ICH AC97

2) Install the Virtualbox Guest Additions

3) Download the Realtek AC97 Audio driver here: http://goo.gl/YS92

4) Install the audio driver.

5) Restart Windows 7

Audio should now work after restart. Cheers!

Tested in VirtualBox 3.x - also works in VirtualBox 4.x
